Generac 20-Point Inspection

Keeping YOUR Power On

Upon Arrival:

  1. Visual check, look for oil leaks, check battery year
  2. Check oil level
  3. Check battery terminals for corrosion and tight connections
    – Try manual start
  4. Listen to the harmonics (cranking power, duration of crank, running, listen for any loud ‘clicking’ on metal noise (valves))
    60Hz +/- 4 Hz (depending on year and model)
    240VAC (210-215 for capacitor models)
    3600RPM +/- 75 RPM
  5. Listen for exhaust flex hose (under HOT panel), any cracks/loudness
    -Shut generator down and listen for any metal on metal clanking
  6. Change oil and oil filter (write the date and run hours on filter)
  7. Check air filter, replace every 3 years or 200 run hours or as needed
  8. Check spark plugs, replace every 3 years or 100 run hours or as needed
  9. Check and adjust valves every 200 run hours
  10. Check stepper motor or mechanical linkage (depending on year)
  11. Check starter connections and starter contactor connections (depending on year)
  12. Check choke solenoid (depending on year)
  13. Check hoses and hose clamps
  14. Check fuel line
  15. Reset maintenance button
  16. Correct time of day
  17. Update firmware
  18. Ohm brush assembly wire 4 and 0 if generator is 10 years or 400 run hours
  19. Clean dust, dirt, grass, oil, bugs, leaves, snow inside/outside and around intake vents
  20. Apply Rustoleum spray paint in appropriate locations
