Help Avoid an Electrical Fire in Your Home
Stay Safe with Our Home Electric Panel Inspection:
- Check for loose, burnt or corroded connections inside electric panel.
- Check all connections for tightness.
- Check to make sure all circuit breakers turn on and off.
- Make sure electric panel is properly fastened to wall.
- Check electric panel for any open knockouts, install hole plugs where needed.
- Check to make sure the proper circuit breaker amperage corresponds to gauge of wire. There will be an extra charge if we have to replace circuit breakers.
- Make sure all cables have connectors and properly fastened to box.
- Make sure all cables are strapped within 12” of box.
- Make sure there is only one wire under each screw.
- Inspect to make sure neutral terminal is bonded to box if it’s a main circuit breaker panel.
- If required, make sure there is an equipment ground bar kit and all equipment ground wires are separate from neutral wires.
- Inspect grounding to copper cold water pipe within 5’ of where water pipe enters house.
- Inspect to make sure cold and hot water lines and gas lines are all bonded together.
- Inspect to make sure all water pipe clamps are tight.
- Inspect for two supplemental ground rods are driven outside with grounding bridge and #6 copper wire is connected to main circuit breaker neutral terminal.
- Inspect for any water entering panel box, check for rust or corroded connections around terminals.
- Inspect service entrance cable for frayed or worn; advise owner if it needs replacing.
- Caulk around service cable where it enters house.
- Check connections at meter box, make sure they’re tight, look for water entering meter box.
- Make sure meter box is properly fastened to house.
- Check weatherproof connector at top of meter box; make sure it’s tight and not worn.
- Make sure service cable or conduit is properly fastened.
- Inspect weather head, make sure no water is entering into service cable.
- Inspect point of connection for any loose connections, retape connections.
- Inspect cable support to make sure it’s securely fastened to house and supporting service drop cable.
- Inspect for any tree branches that may be touching service drop cable from Detroit Edison pole, advise home owner to have trees trimmed as needed.
